Saturday"s = Glam Tip or Trick

Yesterday was a Trick, time for a Tip... a YUMMY tip!

Winter means dry skin and super chapped lips!

I dunno about you guys, but I don't find chapped lips SEXY or KISSABLE!

So here's a quick tip...

In a small container mix:

1 tsp of sugar

1/2 tsp of milk

and a drop of honey!

  • With your index finger apply a small amount of this delish concoction to your lips, the same way you would apply a lip balm!
  • Rub your lips together for 5 seconds.
And...
  • Remove (by eating, or with a damp cloth). *I prefer to lick my lips clean, mmm yum!

This should leave your lips soft and smooth!

To maintain it, use Lift Cosmetics' Vitamin E stick. It will keep those lips hydrated and healthy!

Hope it helps!
XO

P.S. Have a great weekend, see you on Tuesday!

Friday's = Glam Tip or Trick

Flash Back:

About 15 years ago...I tip-toed into my Mother's bathroom where she kept her make-up bag, and decided it was time that I play with her stash!

Not to pat myself on the back or anything, but it was going pretty smoothly and looking quite good until... I found her mascara!!

Okay Ladies, we've all done it, and STILL do it! *Yes, I admit, every once in a while, when in a rush, I will accidently hit my cheek or upper eyelid with my mascara wand, leaving a big dark blob on my skin!

I heard my Mom come in the front door, panicked (I didn't want her to catch me with make-up on) and tried to remove all of it, but most of all the big black mess of mascara on my eyelid by rubbing viciously with water and tissue. This clearly didn't work! Long story short, Mom found me, giggled, soaked a cotton round with make-up remover and gently wiped the evidence away!

Since then, I have been using make-up remover for this problem but it's always so frustrating because it generally means you have to start your look over again!

NOT ANYMORE! Here's a great trick!

If you get a little or a LOT of mascara on your skin, let it dry completely before attempting to remove it!

Once the mascara is dry, take a fresh q-tip and place the head of it directly on the dark mark.

Apply some pressure and twist the q-tip, this should remove the problem with little damage to the rest of your look!

*Ta-dah!!! If only I had known...

Thursday = Feature Product Day!

This Week's Feature Product:
Rich Renewal Ultra- Hydrating Crème, By Orly

Confession: I am a hand cream SNOB, it's beyond being picky at this point.
*I needed a cream that didn't leave my hands feeling greasy or slick, and I wanted it fragranced but lightly so that it wasn't competing with my perfume!

Okay, so I found this cream by total fluke and now, can't live without it. I figured... why not let my beautiful clients in on the secret? In no time, I had it on the shelves at LBB! It's now time for you to understand how great this product REALLY is!

For those of you who don't know, I am a Hair Stylist, Make-up Artist, Nail Tech and Brow Specialist by trade! My poor hands... soaking in water, using hand sanitizer on the reg, submerged in chemicals and add this winter weather to the mix! I needed a cream that I could count on!

Rich Renewal's Benefits:

- Promotes Healing, with Aloe Vera and Vitamins A & E

- Nourishes Skin, with Shea and Cocoa Butters

- Protects against harsh weather

- Not greasy

- Lightly fragranced, 4 scents

- Comes in 2 sizes: 2oz (perfect for your purse, you can guarantee you'll find one in my purse at all times), and an 8oz tube (special order)

- Recommended for your hands but it's equally effective on your body and feet!

*Come visit us for a complimentary hand massage to give it a shot!

Tuesday = Weekend Gossip Sesh!

IceFest & Birthday PARTY...

Okay, so the ice sculptures were totally breath taking! It's amazing how detailed they were! I'm assuming the Canadian theme was in honour of Canada hosting the Olympics. Someone should have sent these Toronto ice artists out to BC to help with the opening ceremonies!
Did any of you visit the Yorkville Icefest??
*Sorry to those clients who were trying to get to us on Saturday - traffic was insane and Cumberland Street was closed!
So the VIBE at LBB on Saturday was absolutely amazing which put me in the BEST mood... which was necessary for my BIRTHDAY PARTY!!! My birthday was officially spread over 4 WEEKS this year... Tee-hehe

After a LONG day at work, I'm not usually in the mood to socialized. I have a habit of putting on my PJ's and plopping myself on my couch for the night! But my BF and I had committed to hosting an annual party in honour of both of our Birthday's. We do it every year and it's always a great time, lots of food, drinks and friends!

This year was NO exception!! Our place was filled with LOVE, laughter, friendship and of course ICE CREAM CAKE!

Mmmmm Yummmy!

Although I had made it clear on the invite that the party would be super casual, as the HOST and Birthday Girl I felt it wasn't appropriate to be plopped on the couch in my PJ's.

I decided to go for an "unpolished, feminine chick" look!

Here's how I put it together:

HAIR:

- Wrapped large sections of my hair around a medium sizes curling iron and sprayed (before and after) with Glamour Queen!

- With a tinny clip, I tucked a few locks away from my face and secured them at the nap of my neck!

MAKE-UP:

- Some people say NO bronzer in the winter.... I'm not those people! As long as you have the right shade of bronzer you can get away with it year round and I definitely made that statement at my bday party!

- I used some warm Chestnut Eye Liner, and a soft pink shimmer on my inner eyes and cheek bones... LOADS of mascara and completed it with a soft lip; Flirt *my go to lip shade!

ATTIRE:

IT WAS HOT IN HERE (Temperature!)

- So I threw on a soft rose coloured, racer back tank and layered on top of it a winter white lace cami (casual but cute)..

- Dark denim - wide leg jeans, and caramel coloured oxford shoes!

- and to pull it all together, a long strand of pearls and a stunning gold key necklace (Thanks to my old friend Lauren!)

Let me know what you think of my look....

Tomorrow, Tomorrow, I love you Tomorrow, it's only a day away!!!

VALENTINE’S DAY - with a loved one? Or Out Looking for one to LOVE?

Either way, the look has to be just right! Being approachable while also being SMOKING HOT is hard to achieve. So here are a few pointers!
(Take a Tip or Two from Blake -  Totally hot, while still being herself!)

Guys like touchable hair, so lay off the hard hold hair spray. No need for helmet head.
  • Try Osis’ Elastic, it will hold your style while keeping your hair soft and moveable!

Kissable Lips: I don’t know about you, but I don’t like leaving evidence on my man! Flesh tones are SOOOO in.
  • Try Lift Cosmetics’ “flirt,” it will keep your lips, soft and subtle.

Made you BLUSH! ;)
A soft wash in a warm pink colour will keep your crush, date or LOVER’s confidence up! It will be our little secret that it isn’t him making you blush that perfect shade of pink!
  • Try "Natural Glow," by Lift cosmetics, this colour is perfect for every skin tone!
Hope you all have the most romantic and movie-like Valentine’s Day!

The Forgotten Body Part...

It seems that most of Toronto’s ladies forget about our feet in the winter months. Statistics show that the pedicure business drops across the city, VERY dramatically from September to May.
Are you neglecting your feet for more than HALF the year?
We may not be strolling around in sandals here in Toronto, but hopefully we are snuggled under the covers with someone! Whether it be your BF or BFF no one wants to feel your sand paper feet against theirs!

Keeping your feet in good condition doesn’t necessarily entail having a full pedi, try a scrub once a week at home - or - indulge in a custom foot scrub, mask and massage for $20.00!
Tip: Ask for Melissa, she gives the BEST massages; feet, hands and scalp!
*When booking your appointment mention the blog!

Our in house Brow Genius, Tip of the day!

“Using brow powder and gel can seem high maintenance, when in fact using these things can keep you from visiting ME (your local Brow Tamer) too soon! In the long run, these 2 products are a money saver!”
~ Says, Lauren
Some of our beautiful clients can go an extra 2-4 weeks before having to come in for a reshaping... because they use this trick!

Try Lift Cosmetics Brow Gel; unlike others, it leaves your brows looking matte. No one likes the look of shinny gelled brows!
*For a lesson on how to powder and gel your brows, and to understand the full benefits; call us for a free consult with Lauren (just mention this blog post).

The 5 Minute Style and Frost Bitten Ends...

The truth is, this weather isn’t great for long locks!

I dunno about you guys but I trim my hair ever 6-8 weeks which is frequent enough that I shouldn’t be getting split ends, and I’m NOT!
Here's the trick; not only do I trim on the reg but I also use the hair saving "Moroccan Oil." This product is absolutely unbelievable and it's totally dummy proof. It can be used on wet OR dry hair and it smells soooooo good.
The benefit: The molecules in this oil are actually small enough to saturate into the hair shaft, chalking the hair full of all of the right things to keep it looking, feeling and truly BEING healthy.

I've also learnt to work with what I’ve got, to save my ends.... (It's less time consuming too.)
Tip: try do avoid using heat to style your hair. Ie. Blow dryer/curling iron/flat iron

The 5 minute Do:
  1. Shower, Apply Moroccan Oil.... give your hair a break and let it try naturally.
  2.  Apply Osis “Magic” and “4-Play” from root to end, to tame and frizz and to add texture. Then toss all of that hair into a loose and very low pony. (If you want some volume at the root, do a little back combing prior to pulling it back/if you have short layers in the front let them hang out )
  3. You remember the 90's, close to your scalp and above your elastic divide the hair in two, making room to pull your ponnied hair threw.
  4. Twist, tease and knot the hair that has been pulled threw.
  5. Grab a hand full of bobby pins and start pinning your tassled locks into a low cluster
*Tip: Cross Pinning will help to keep the hair from falling.

Matchy Matchy

Apparently matching your lips to your attire is BACK!
Which means... all of you ladies can justify needing a lip shade for every outfit.
*Uh Oh*  For me, that means lots of lip gear. It isn’t a secret that my true love and constant in life (other than my hair, make-up and nail addiction) is clothing and accessories. If my boyfriend was reading this, I’m pretty sure he’d be offended. He’s only been around for 2 years, you girls know how it is... the love of fashion has been fixed in my life since I’ve been old enough to understand it,  I can totally blame my Mother for that!
P.S. BoyFriend: If you’re reading - I LOVE YOU MORE THAN ANYTHING! *Damage control.
My trick to stay in the budget while still having a lip colour to be Matchy Matchy with every outfit: The Lift Cosmetics Mineral Vanilla Bean Line. I have 5 of the 11 shades in my personal make-up stash and I find that they go with anything and everything

Miss America Beauty Blunders

Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron

It has come to my attention that I missed the 2010 Miss America Pageant! Sorry lovely ladies. Of course if I had watched it, I would have SOMETHING to say about the hair and make-up. Lets not forget the ATTIRE! First and foremost, the ladies who competed are all beautiful and inspiring. That being said, there are few things I would like to touch on!

EYE SHADOW: the trend for the past 2 years has been “less is more!” These girls definitely did not get that memo. I’m not sure if it was my bf’s large screen HD TV that made this so obvious to me, or what. But it was almost appalling! I always tell you ladies to enhance your natural beauty, NOT MASK YOUR “FLAWS” WITH TOO MUCH MAKE-UP!

Is it part of the the pageant culture to be HEAVY on the shadow?? We didn’t see any of that look at the Grammy’s...

What did you think of the beauty looks on Miss America? Are we all in agreement?? :)

Grammy Looks Breakdown

This year's Grammy's definitely did not disappoint! I could talk about the music and my opinion on who truly
deserved which award... but instead, lets talk HAIR, MAKE-UP, and NAILS!

Dear Miley, we appreciate you BEING your age! Your look for the Grammy’s was current and very age appropriate! Your slightly off center part is PERFECT for your face shape... lets keep it there! Oh and your make-up artist deserves a raise - thanks for NOT over doing it!

FACT:
Your part can make the proportions of your face look completely different! Play with your part to see what looks best with your features!

Taylor, you have been playing with this, “Old Hollywood Glam” look for a while now. Although you always look beautiful, we’d love to see something different on you! You could get away with almost any look! Just don’t ever change the STUNNING hair colour! XO

Lea, WE LOVE YOU! It isn’t a secret that you can often walk into LBB and hear the soundtrack of Glee over the humming noise of our blow dryers! Last night Lea showed class and elegance in her fun and flirty Grammy look!

This lovely lady is showing all of our predictions for make-up: heavy mascara, beautiful highlight and a soft and subtle lip! Looks a lot like Lift Cosmetic’s “Serene” lip stick! *On sale right now for $10.00! Come try it on!

Who were your favourite Grammy beauties?
