Day 2 of Hair Science

Alright, So yesterday we talked about what greasy hair is and why it happens!
As promised, today we shall talk about balancing your scalp's PH to get rid of the problem.

Do the OBVIOUS:
  1. Eat Healthy Foods, ALWAYS! haha ya right!
  2. Make sure your hormones levels are PERFECT! Hahah easy huh!?!
  3. DO what I did...
Remove the build up, and imbalance induced fungus with
BC DEEP CLEANSING SHAMPOO by Schwarzkopf ($14.00 - 250ml)
 This shampoo removes excess oil without drying the hair and scalp out.
BC Deep Cleanse Shampoo removes only the excess oil, leaving the essential oils that the hair and scalp need to remain healthy.
"Deep cleansing surfactants build a compound of active ingredients to gently and effectively cleanse away elements of product build-up, minerals and excess grease." - Schwarzkopf
*Delays re-greasing of the scalp.

Application
* Apply to wet hair.
* Massage.
* Leave for 2 minutes.
* Rinse.

Don't forget to condition your hair too... Remember your hair naturally "conditions" your roots by producing grease. So when you use conditioner focus on using it on your Mid-shafts and Ends... do not massage it into the scalp.

I used the Deep Cleansing Shampoo with Schwarzkopf's Repair Conditioner ($14.00 - 200ml).

*This wont fix your problem in ONE shampoo! Be patient please...
Here's what happened with my hair:
  • The first 5 days I continued to wash my hair EVERYDAY!
  • Day 6 I broke the habit and didn't wash my hair. By the end of the day I felt like my hair looked greasy but everyone I asked, assured me that it didn't look greasy at all!
  • Day 7 I washed my hair but didn't shampoo again for 2 days (however, on the last day I did pull my hair into a pony because I felt self conscious.)
From there On, I was able to go 2-3 days between Shampoos!
This will be different for EVERYONE but the effects should be noticed by the time you finish the bottle of shampoo!
As I'm sure you noticed, these products aren't crazy $$$!

Fashion Induced Stress Case!

Photo Cred: elle.com

Does your DESIRE to look Fashionable make you happy or give you grief?

Weekend = Social Activity = ANXIETY!

*I ask this question because lately when it comes time for me to get dolled up for a social engagement I find myself feeling stressed out!

Hair and Make-up, I LOVE DOING! Infact, I look forward to doing my hair and make-up for a night out!
I'm confident in my abilities and always feel like my hair and make-up looks just right!

But when it comes to clothing, I definitely get worked up and generally my room looks like a tornado has passed threw it by the time I have found an outfit!

I have been trying to blame it on my wardrobe, but honestly it can't be the problem! I have more clothes than any one person needs and if I do say so myself I have a great balance of basics, classics and statement pieces.

I think the 2 main reasons that getting dressed stresses me out are;

  1. I watch too much TV, Read too many Magazines and follow too many fashion blogs! I WANT, I WANT, I WANT! Honestly, everywhere I turn, I see something new that I want and then when I try to get dressed, all I can think about is what I DON'T have!
  2. My body keeps changing! It seems from week to week I'm a different size and/or shape! None of my clothes fit the way they are suposed to anymore! I'm on a budget ladies, I can't just replace my entire wardrobe!
I just want to look my best!!! Should I just go on a bit of a VISA shopping spree?

Are any of you feeling this???
Is it because of the season change, or do you feel it year round??
Does great hair and make-up take away from a bad outfit?
Can I get away with wearing so/so clothing because my hair and make-up are styled to perfection?

Happy April Fools!

I know you are all expecting some FAB April fools prank from me, but I am totally lacking in inspiration in that department today... Sorry to disappoint everyone!

So instead, I'm gonna tell you a funny story about a prank I played on a new client just a few weeks ago!

Okay, so this client was a referral from one of my longest standing clients. *For those of you who haven't met me yet - I treat my clients like my friends, we joke around, tell funny stories and gossip about significant others, friends, family and of course fashion!

The client who referred this person to me, CC'ed me on their e-mails about the dilemma this girl was in - She had a huge event to go to but her regular hair stylist had "fallen off the face of the earth!"

My client says to her in one of their e-mails, "You should really check out Emily at Lift Beauty Boutique, she gives the BEST blow out and you'll have a blast with her! Just let her do her thing, she always knows what looks best - she'll ask what you are wearing and come up with the perfect look to match the occasion! While you're there, see Lauren for a Make-up App and Nail polishing, you'll be out of there in 30min. MAXIMUM and all you'll have to do when you get home is slip your outfit on! Oh and I just got an e-mail from them saying that this month you can get all of this done for $35.00, just call and book in asap if you want to try them out.. they book up fast!"
- How sweet is my client? You know who you are - I love you!

So, 2 weeks later I find the referral in my chair! Right away we hit it off and start joking around! I ask her all about her likes and dislikes, found out what the events was, what she was wearing and took her to the sink to get her washed out!

Once I had her back in my chair, I asked her if she wanted to know what I was doing or if I should just "go at it!" She said, "I hear you do a wicked BLOW OUT! Let's do that!"

This girl has BEAUTIFUL TIGHT CURLS naturally but made it clear she likes a bit of a smoother look for special occasions. So I said, "No problem!" I turned her away from the Mirror so that Lauren could Polish her nails and do her make-up while I was doing her hair. So she really had NO idea what I was doing!

Long story short, I blew out all of the water from her hair while making it as BIG & PUFFY as possible! Timing worked out perfectly as I got all of the water OUT at the same time as Lauren finished the Make-up App!
 Didn't have my Camera with me that day, so here are some random pics to give you an idea...

 I turned her around to face the mirror and said "Tadaaa!" At first she thought we were only done with her make-up, she raved about it and then continued to sit in my seat as if I wasn't done he r hair!*Wink, Wink!

After a self imposed awkward moment I said... "Okay, well have the best time tonight, and when ever you are ready Mel can help you with your jacket and get you cashed out!"

She looked at me like I was crazy and hesitantly said "ookkaaay????"

I let her get checked out before I said "Hahahaha, Just Kidding! We just like to get people cashed out before we polish your nails, so that you don't ruin them digging through your purse!"

The relief that came over her face was PRICELESS, I wish I could have gotten it on camera!
We had a good chuckle and reminisced about terrible hair experiences -PROM and her sister's Wedding.
Ten more min. in my chair and her hair was stunning and flawless, her nails were polished, and we continued to have an amazing laugh!
I gave her a Beyonce inspired blow out, that looked very similar to this...
*Still lots of Volume, but tamed and GLAM!

She's been back every Friday since, for "The Works." We have a great time together and I know I've got a long time client now!

She says she's told the story a few hundred times, and always gets a story in return of a TRUE bad hair styling experience!

 **Have you ever had a Hair Styling Session go wrong? Wedding Day, Prom...?
I wanna hear about it!

Miss America Beauty Blunders

Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron

It has come to my attention that I missed the 2010 Miss America Pageant! Sorry lovely ladies. Of course if I had watched it, I would have SOMETHING to say about the hair and make-up. Lets not forget the ATTIRE! First and foremost, the ladies who competed are all beautiful and inspiring. That being said, there are few things I would like to touch on!

EYE SHADOW: the trend for the past 2 years has been “less is more!” These girls definitely did not get that memo. I’m not sure if it was my bf’s large screen HD TV that made this so obvious to me, or what. But it was almost appalling! I always tell you ladies to enhance your natural beauty, NOT MASK YOUR “FLAWS” WITH TOO MUCH MAKE-UP!

Is it part of the the pageant culture to be HEAVY on the shadow?? We didn’t see any of that look at the Grammy’s...

What did you think of the beauty looks on Miss America? Are we all in agreement?? :)

Grammy Looks Breakdown

This year's Grammy's definitely did not disappoint! I could talk about the music and my opinion on who truly
deserved which award... but instead, lets talk HAIR, MAKE-UP, and NAILS!

Dear Miley, we appreciate you BEING your age! Your look for the Grammy’s was current and very age appropriate! Your slightly off center part is PERFECT for your face shape... lets keep it there! Oh and your make-up artist deserves a raise - thanks for NOT over doing it!

FACT:
Your part can make the proportions of your face look completely different! Play with your part to see what looks best with your features!

Taylor, you have been playing with this, “Old Hollywood Glam” look for a while now. Although you always look beautiful, we’d love to see something different on you! You could get away with almost any look! Just don’t ever change the STUNNING hair colour! XO

Lea, WE LOVE YOU! It isn’t a secret that you can often walk into LBB and hear the soundtrack of Glee over the humming noise of our blow dryers! Last night Lea showed class and elegance in her fun and flirty Grammy look!

This lovely lady is showing all of our predictions for make-up: heavy mascara, beautiful highlight and a soft and subtle lip! Looks a lot like Lift Cosmetic’s “Serene” lip stick! *On sale right now for $10.00! Come try it on!

Who were your favourite Grammy beauties?

Get the Look: Loose Waves

As Promised...
The infamous loose wave that I’m asked for atleast 3 times a day! Okay ladies, here’s the trick for at home!

Step One: Have yourself a nice hot shower after your dinner!
Step Two: Towel dry your locks.
Step Three: Take your brush/comb and toss it in a drawer!
Step Four: Spray your roots with Osis GLAMOUR QUEEN! This stuff will amaze you!
Step Five: Finger comb your hair (from mid-shaft to ends) with BUFF - also Osis! (Use a loonie size amount)
Step Six: Check your facebook, watch the bachelor, call your best friend. Ie. Let your hair dry naturally until it’s just damp!
Step Seven: When you’re ready to tuck yourself into bed take 2 minutes section your hair into 4 quadrants. Loosely twist each section and pin them into loose buns!
Step Eight: Get yourself some sweet shut eye!
Step Nine: Rise and Shine, plus the pins out, and finger comb your dry hair.
Step Ten: Perfect the look by touching up a strand here and there by twisting it around a flat iron or large barrel curling iron! NOTE: Always curl AWAY from the face! Add some DUST IT (Osis again!) at the root, toss your head upside down, spray all over with more GLAMOUR QUEEN.... Scrunch with your hands, flip over and TADDA!!! You have tousled loose waves like all of the celebs!

Can't wait to watch the Grammy's and discuss the pretty hair and makeup trends!
